My name is Hoe Chuah. Welcome to my blog and thank you for reading. I am a retired Polymer Scientist. Although I had received some recognitions for my scientific work such as an American Chemical Society award in 2000, they are now behind me. I am happily pursuing my hobbies: bonsai, gardening, stamp collecting, butterflies, travelling, Taiji and learning about Chinese culture and history.
I live in Texas, USA. I started doing bonsai and penjing in early 1990s; largely self-taught by learning from books, magazines, by trial and error, and seeking advises from experienced club members, nursery professionals to bonsai masters. This site is devoted to bonsai and anything related to it. I hope we can exchange information and pursue the hobby together.
The banner photo at the top of my WordPress blog is the picture I took at the Huanglong Valley in Southwestern China. The elevation is about 3,200 meters, so lots of snow even though it was October. The multi-color pools were formed by calcite deposits. They cascaded downwards with a series of pools and waterfalls for about 3.6 km. A natural wonder to behold.
outstanding pictures, thankyou!. I shared on my FB page – https://www.facebook.com/meljobubonsai . Regards Craig.

Thanks Al. I have often read your blogs on stands, displays, scrolls, bonsai etc. They are good and very helpful information whenever I think of displaying trees in a show.

Hi Xiaohuang,
My apology for the late reply. Had been very occupied with the Houston Chinese Bonsai Society 10th anniversary show held over the last weekends.
I visited Yixing about 10 years ago, saw the dragon kiln. Perhaps there are several dragon kilns in the region. Anyway, I enjoyed my visit to bonsai pot and tea pot studios, and saw how they made them.
Thankyou great site.
Thanks!
